Build it yourself and you'll know how it works
Partway through every build, the pile of copper on your bench starts to look like an instrument. The 6 Gallon EZ KIT gets you to that point. We do the heavy work in our shop: we cut, roll and emboss the copper, so it reaches you ready to clamp and solder. You bring the torch, the patience and a steady hand. You save money because you do the assembly yourself.
Why 6 gallons
Six gallons is a good size for learning how copper, heat and vapor behave. It's big enough for real experiments and small enough to handle easily. Every run teaches you something: how fast the heat climbs, when the vapor comes over, where to make your cuts. You're the alchemist and the scientist here, and the notebook is yours.
What it takes
- Comfort with a torch and with soldering copper
- A clean, safe place to clamp and fit parts
- Time to dry-fit everything before you solder a joint
If you've soldered copper pipe before, the work will feel familiar. If you haven't, practice on scrap first. Good joints come from practice, not guesswork.
Uses and the law
It's legal to own a still in the US. People use copper stills to distill water and extract essential oils, and to make fuel alcohol with a federal permit. Distilling spirits requires federal (TTB) permits. Follow federal, state, and local law before you fire it up.
